In this blog, Claire shares how her non-traditional route led her back to law—this time in a fully remote role with Complete Clarity and Simplicity Legal. Her story highlights the value of transferable skills, the importance of flexibility in modern legal practice, and how forward-thinking firms are reshaping the profession by supporting remote work and trusting their teams to deliver, regardless of location.

My career is evidence that things rarely go as planned in life. This journey has been anything from predictable, ranging from the fast-paced world of A&E nursing to the painstaking technicalities of residential conveyancing, followed by an entrepreneurial endeavour in candle-making, and ultimately returning to law. However, if I’ve learnt anything, it’s that the legal industry is changing, and progressive companies like Complete Clarity and Simplicity Legal are setting the standard by accepting remote work and having faith in their staff. I didn’t pursue a career in law the conventional way. I worked as a nurse for a while. Even while I liked the work, I was drawn to something else. I’ve always been interested in law, and I came to see that many of the abilities I have as a nurse—such as managing complicated situations, paying close attention to detail, and assisting individuals in times of stress—were equally useful in the legal industry.
Career in Law
So, as a mature student, I took the plunge into law school. It wasn’t easy balancing studies with life’s responsibilities, especially as my twin girls were 5 years old as I began my first year at University, but I knew I had found my new path. Eventually, I built a successful 20-year career in residential conveyancing, helping clients navigate one of the most significant financial transactions of their lives.
After two decades in law, life took another unexpected turn. My husband’s job had already taken us to South Africa, but his job then took him to Turkey, and we decided to relocate to North Cyprus. I embraced the opportunity to try something new, and I launched a candle-making business, pouring my energy into learning a completely different trade.
Whilst the experience was valuable, the business didn’t take off as I had hoped. It was a lesson in resilience, adaptability, and knowing when to pivot. Deep down, I missed the challenge of law, but I wasn’t sure if returning to a legal career—especially while living abroad—was even possible.
Opportunity for Remote working
For me, that’s when Complete Clarity and Simplicity Legal made all the difference. They prioritised trusting their employees and saw beyond regional boundaries, in contrast to many traditional businesses. They offered me the opportunity to work remotely from North Cyprus after recognising my skills and experience.
In the legal industry, where many firms still operate under the premise that lawyers must be at an office to be effective, this kind of flexibility is still uncommon. The company has faith that its employees, wherever they may be, will produce outcomes. I was able to keep the lifestyle I had established overseas while returning to my favourite job, thanks to that trust and flexibility.
Working remotely is the way of the future for the legal industry, not just a fad from the pandemic. Lawyers now place a higher priority on work-life balance, and clients expect accessibility. Innovative companies like Clarity are demonstrating that outcomes, adaptability, and trust are more important than workplace appearance.
Anything is possible
For me, this journey has been about reinvention, resilience, and embracing change. I never imagined I would transition from nursing to law, move across continents, start a business, and then return to law remotely. But it’s proof that with the right mindset—and the right firm behind you—anything is possible.
If you’re a legal professional wondering whether remote work could be part of your future, I can confidently say it works. If more firms follow the example, the legal industry will only become stronger for it.
